So You Wanna Be an Outfielder...

Or you're at least thinking about it! Here is some basic information about our league.  If you have any questions that aren't answered here, don't hesitate to contact us.

When do you play?

The Sydney Outfielders Softball League runs from October to March. Games are Tuesdays at 6:30pm, and games are seven innings long, or until 8:00pm.

Where do you play?

We play at Moore Park in Sydney, on the Robertson Road fields. Roadside parking is available on Robertson Road, and the fields are accessible by the 338, 372, 274, 376, 391, 391, and M50 buses at the Anzac Parade and Lang Road stop, just past the Entertainment Quarter.

What does it cost to play?

The cost for the entire season is $95. Half-price concession memberships are available for fulltime students and players who are 25 years of age or younger by the start of the sesason. Please note that all players must fill out the registration form.  For those who have never played before we hold a FREE open day before the start of the season. This give you the opportunity to play a game to see if you like it before signing up for the season.

I've never played before. Is that okay?

There is no level of skill required to play in the Sydney Outfielders. The only requirements are that you play in a sportsmanlike manner and have fun! Before playing, it may be helpful to have a look at the rules, but we will also be happy to fill you in on the day.

What do I need to bring?

Bring a softball or baseball mitt if you have one, but it's no problem if you don't - we have a few spares around, and it's common for players to borrow one from the other team. The league provides bats and helmets, and when you join a team, your captain will let you know what to wear as part of the team uniform.

What if I don't have a team to join?

This is one of the great things about the Sydney Outfielders - meeting new friends! If you would like to play, but don't have a particular team in mind that you would like to join, we will gladly place you on a team. Alternatively, if there is a specific team you would like to play form, you can indicate that on your registration form.

Can my friend and I play on the same team?

When you register, you can specify if there are certain people you would like to play with, and we will do our best to find a team you can play on together. If there are enough of you that would like to play together, you can start your own team!

What if I work up a thirst?

You can join us for post-game drinks down the road at the Bat and Ball on Cleveland Street.

I'm in! What do I have to do?

Step 1: Fill out the registration form.

Step 2: Show up.

Step 3: Have fun!

If you haven't requested a particular team, we will be in contact with you to let you know which team you've been placed on.

Current Teams

The Sydney Outfielders wouldn't exist without our fabulous teams that keep us coming back for more every week!

You can register to play with one of our teams, or get some friends together and start your own!

BallBreakers were formed in 2007 when a bunch of party pals thought it would be fun to play sport and get fit to look even hotter on the dance floor. The Ballbreakers' motto is "Always testy," and we take deep pride in calling a single win a "winning streak." We still look hot nine years on, and every year we celebrate a few new faces to the BB family. In the offseason we often catch up at parties, play baseball, rugby and know, to stay looking hot!

Captain: Karen Mulak (circled)

Team Colour: Red

The Comets were formed in 2008, and some of the players have been playing together ever since! Many of the players grew up overseas playing softball or baseball. In the offseason, the Comets stay in touch with regular pub trivia nights, and are regulars at the pub after the game during the season. You can visit their team website here.

Team Colour: Green

The Dragons' motto is "Everyone is welcome." We have a good mix of new and returning players each season. There is always someone to help new players gain confidence and skills. We like to have fun and don't take ourselves too seriously. Our team mascot is Brutus (front row, centre). He attends every game to cheer us on. (He makes a lot of noise!).

Captain: Pamela Aropio (circled)

Team Colour: Purple

OHANA means family in Hawaiian. We are made up of high school family, Bondi family, work family, sports family and literal family! In previous seasons, we've had brothers and sisters, brother and sister-in-laws and married couples playing! OHANA plays softball, beach and indoor volleyball and ten pin bowling. As the saying goes, "OHANA that plays together, stays together!"

Captain: Jason Appleby (circled)

Team Colours: Black, Red

The Pirates are a ragtag bunch of fun-loving miscreants.  We celebrate our successes and laugh at our mistakes (and we laugh a lot).  The only thing a new Pirate requires is a willingness to rock up and give it a go!
