Twenty-five seasons. One extraordinary community.

2025/26 · Our 25th season in review

All news & stories

A new champion, a packed social calendar and more opportunities to play. Our 25th season gave us plenty to celebrate—on the diamonds and far beyond them.

Two hundred players, 12 teams and around 70 newcomers: our 25th season brought another generation of Outfielders into a community that began its summer competition in 2001. There were great games, new friendships and plenty of reminders that the people around the diamond are what make it worth coming back.

A season worth watching again

25 years of Outfielders · Open the film

Our 25th-season film brings together the people, games and memories behind the milestone. Whether you have been here for years or are just getting to know us, it is a chance to see the community behind the team names.

A new name at the top

Ballbreakers finished at the top of the round-robin ladder and went on to win the grand final, ending Comets’ remarkable 12-season winning streak. Galahs finished second overall, while Comets continued to set a high standard in third. Base Invaders recorded their best finish to date, taking fourth in their third season together.

There was plenty to celebrate across the divisions too. BDE finished fifth overall with the league’s best defensive record and took Girdles honours. Phoenix Flyers rose through the finals to win Heels and finish ninth overall. Around them were improving teams, rookies growing in confidence and friends and family making their presence felt on the sidelines.

More time on the diamonds

Despite a wet Sydney summer, we made it through without cancelling a single round. Additional field bookings at Alexandria Park helped us create more playing opportunities, while Friday night training gave members from different teams a relaxed place to practise, build confidence and socialise afterwards.

Our open days kept the welcome growing. The Pride Month Open Day brought more than 60 people together after a rainy start, and September’s event again attracted over 60 attendees. These were days for trying something new, meeting people and discovering that softball could be for you.

A calendar with room for everyone

The season’s friendships kept growing away from the field. More than 120 people came to Drag Bingo at The Imperial with Coco Jumbo. Our Opening Party at Bar Cleveland brought over 100 members together, and Universal hosted a Christmas Party full of festive performances and Outfielders shenanigans.

A League of Their Own mixed up the teams and made space to reflect on our league’s purpose. Friday training, post-game catch-ups at Watson’s EQ, Bat & Ball socials and the less formal moments between events gave people plenty of ways to take part.

Our Mardi Gras celebrations brought the 25th season’s community spirit to Oxford Street.

Taking that spirit into the city

Mardi Gras brought Neon Slayground to life: over 50 members marched in custom neon uniforms, backed by months of rehearsals and volunteer effort. Our Fair Day stall earned a Community Award nomination, while Let’s Slay Ball welcomed more people to the sport. It was a bright, joyful way to celebrate a milestone year.

Powered by people

The new community points scheme helped bring volunteers from across the league into events and fundraising. At Bunnings, members from 11 of our 12 teams pitched in. Across the season, those contributions helped support equipment, field hire, training and accessible events.

Thank you to our captains, umpires, volunteers, Committee, partners and every member who showed up for someone else. Twenty-five seasons is a wonderful milestone. The friendships, confidence and sense of belonging we keep building together are what make the next one worth looking forward to.

Community before competition. Then, now and into the next season.
