Our first Saturday softball session brought Outfielders together at Wentworth Park for an afternoon of learning, laughs and a chance to put new skills into play.
With the sun shining and Dione from Softball NSW guiding us, we got stuck into the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding and batting. It was a chance to slow things down, work on technique and get some practice away from the pace of our Tuesday night competition.

From the basics to the batter’s box
We worked on fielding ground balls, getting our gloves into position and following up with a throw. Repeating the movements gave everyone time to focus on their technique, ask questions and have another go.
Then it was time to pick up the bats. Dione demonstrated batting grip, stance and swing, before players practised at the tees using lightweight training balls. Breaking things down gave newer players a chance to build confidence and experienced players an opportunity to sharpen their skills.

Putting it all together
After practising the individual skills, we brought everything together for a roasting hot S20! With bats swinging, runners moving and fielders putting their practice to work, it was a lively way to finish the afternoon.
Alongside the softball, there was plenty of encouragement and a chance to meet people from across the league. These sessions bring players from different teams together to learn, have a laugh and enjoy being part of the Outfielders community.
A big thank you to Dione and Softball NSW for supporting the session, and to everyone who came along and got involved.
